Help us raise funds for CooperarPerú!

After spending an entire year learning about "el mundo hispanohablante" (the Spanish speaking world), our AP Spanish friend group was tasked to make a difference in the world. We had previously completed a research presentation about the small non-profit organization in Cusco my, Peru called "Cooperar Perú." This incredible foundation inspired us so much that we decided to raise money for them, even outside of the school year.

What is Cooperar Perú?
Cooperar Perú is a non-profit organization located in a small community of Tankarpata - about 20 minutes away from Cusco, Peru. Founded in 2010, they have been working with volunteers to improve the quality of life for their children and community. The local families often have insufficient access to health services, education, drinking water, water supply, and/or electricity. The children are also commonly exposed to alcoholism, domestic violence, agricultural work, and other work to help contribute to their family's income. Currently, with COVID-19 shutdowns and quarantine, the already-impoverished families are now struggling to acquire basic needs.
Thus, CooperarPerú’s center for educational support and playful activities works with the children to prevent school failure, offer learning opportunities, and support socially excluded children, as well as those at risk of dropping out of school. Also, they provide educational resources and teach basic hygiene habits. Each day, from 3-7pm, the children are met by the volunteers and go through their daily schedule including: hand washing, brushing teeth, homework, learning activities (motor skills, math, reading), free/play time, weekly themed activities (the five senses was one week's theme), discussion time, and snack time.
Additionally, the organization works in agreement with rural communities to strengthen their capacities in a cooperative, voluntary way. In fact, their mission statement is: "Creating and strengthening capacities for community development." Some of their projects have been: building a community greenhouse for learning opportunities, conducting family check ins and follow ups, collaborating with the local Solidarity Hospital, sending care packages to families, providing psychological assistance for children and families, and promoting agro-ecological practices and techniques. Most recently, CooperarPerú has been providing community relief for COVID-19, especially since Cusco is not well prepared for outbreaks, and many local families do not receive any government aid.

The programs and projects at CooperarPerú are all organized and executed by volunteers with the help of community donations. This is why it is so important to us that we help spread awareness so that we can raise funds. 100% of the donations that we receive will be going directly to Cooperar Perú for their projects. Along with providing care packages of food and supplies for those who are suffering in quarantine, one of their most recent projects has been building a new education space. They are currently collecting funds for new materials to build a new center and fill it with brand new school supplies and murals. The sooner we help collect our funds for them, the sooner the children will have a better resource space to learn!

Please help us spread the world about our mission, as well as the outstanding and inspiring efforts of the community heroes at Cooperar Perú! We are extremely grateful for your support, and the families of Tankarpata thank you, too!

Currently, we are in contact with one of the current volunteers, who helps us brainstorm ideas and receive new information about their projects. We even contacted the founder of the foundation and sat down for a video call interview with them! Click here  to visit our webpage!
