Help Us Pay For My Final College Fees
Hello, everyone! My name is Fabian and I am a fifth-year undergraduate international student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and Finance at the City College of New York. I am very excited to be approaching the final chapter of my journey at CCNY. However, I need some help getting there.
Growing up in a middle-class family of five, I always learned the value of hard work from my mother and father. My mother’s a housewife so my father was our only source of income, and yet, it never seemed as if there was a shortage of anything. Devoting himself to us, he provided for all our needs. When I approached him in my final year of high school and told him that I wanted to study abroad, he encouraged me, supporting me every step of the way – despite the fact that he knew it was going to cost a ton of money. The first semester, my father took care of all my expenses. He was happy to see me living out my dreams. Still, I needed to do something to chip in: as a Bangladeshi student, I found that options were limited because there were prohibitions against international students working anywhere but on campus. Undeterred, I found a job, off the books, four days per week. I juggled my job with my homework and my other obligations, and as my courses became more expensive, I took on another job, working on weekend nights. I also turned my passion for photography into a side hustle. Was it all easy? Absolutely not. There were times that I felt like I had run myself to my absolute limit. I was not going to stop, though. Whatever it took me to maintain my GPA and thrive in the US, I was going to do it. When covid-19 hit, it was a setback – not just for me but for many international students. Although there is only one semester left on my Electrical Engineering and finance degree at the City College of New York, I am stuck, unable to register and apply for graduation because of an outstanding balance that remains. Until I clear those fees, I cannot do anything else. This is a problem: neither my father nor I have worked since the beginning of 2020 because of the lockdowns and the layoffs. Being a foreign student I can't afford to skip a semester cause that will jeopardize my visa and I will face a lot of risks. I have tried other options such as loans where I would need an older, working American to co-sign and seeing how I am the only member of my family here and the fact that my F1 visa will not allow me to seek work outside of campus, loans are pretty much a dead end and I have applied to hundreds if not thousands of scholarships but most will only let the winners of the scholarship know they have won after a long time and I don't have that much time. To put it bluntly, I have exhausted all other available options and NEED all the help I can get. I am not sure how I am going to puzzle my way out of this.
This is why I am turning to you. I am looking to raise any funds that I can to cover my fees and live out my dream, making up the $10,000 difference between the $2,000 that I have and the $12,000 that I need. This campaign will help me to pay off the balance, give me the opportunity to register for Spring classes, and complete my final chapter as an undergraduate at CCNY! I have worked hard during this tough time to put together the $2,000 that I have and I’m still trying, but it is coming up short. My aim is to pay the balance by February 4th which is the end of the initial registration appeal. As you can see time is not in my favor and my goal sounds almost impossible but you never know. My family has done too much for me and I have done too much for this to stumble so close to the finish line. I am almost there, right on the cusp of earning the Bachelor of Science that would change my life forever. I need to do this.
