Help us paint a mural in the L.A. Arts District

We're two artists in Los Angeles looking to paint a new mural on As We Dwell (440 S Alameda Street), and in the process, help out youth in L.A. who could use some help with their own art projects.

We're partnering with Create Now to cover the side of this building in an explosion of color that will honor creativity in all its forms. The more we raise, the more programming we can fund for at-risk and high-risk youth and young adults throughout Los Angeles. And the more wild and fun the mural will be!


HELP OUT KIDS AND ARTISTS!
Our campaign will run throughout May 2021, with painting to begin in early June 2021. 


The amount that funds Create Now's programs depends on how much we raise.  10% of the proceeds from this campaign go to programming:

$10 buys a book for a child
$25 provides paint supplies for six abused kids
$50 sends 12 youth dealing with homelessness to a play
$100 supplies gift bag souvenirs for 10 children facing violence
$250 gives 20 young people a dance workshop
$500 gets a video camera for neglected youngsters

The rest of the donations will pay to construct the mural - paint, scaffolding, artists' time, etc.

THE ARTISTS
BOB CAVIN III - Growing up in Detroit, MI, Bob Cavin was the son of a sign painter who shaped his love of art and influences him till this day. In college he studied Illustration, receiving a BFA. By chance he had one animation class which turned into a 25-year career working for many studios in New York City and Los Angeles. Staying true to his roots, he continues to paint and create on his personal projects which leads him to creating a variety of artwork from murals to woodworking projects.

BRYAN MAHONEY - When he's not writing, Bryan is painting portraits of typewriters from all over the world. He has partnered with Angel City Brewery, right down the street from the mural, in designing the beer cans for their winter 2019 release. He's done many other commercial and private commission works throughout Los Angeles. He's a member of the Burbank Art Association and founder of The Typin Pint , an art and poetry collective based in Los Angeles. (Spoiler: He's the only member of the collective.)

THE ORGANIZATIONS
CREATE NOW 
Create Now’s mission is to empower at-risk and high-risk youth and young adults from ages 3 to 24 through a variety of arts programs in multi-disciplines that help them to heal and thrive. Our goal is to assist them to get out of poverty and learn skills that can lead to jobs and careers.

We focus on the most vulnerable kids who are abused, neglected, orphaned, homeless, victims of domestic violence and sex trafficking, on probation, incarcerated or experiencing other severe challenges. Although small in size, our staff taps into many resources in the community to provide quality arts programs and services. Create Now has reached 49,000+ youth in 24 years!
