Help us grow Saturday Series

Donation protected
Saturday Series is a free "grab and go" workshop series geared for Charlottesville and Albemarle County K-6 students. Led by Kate Kogge (Murray Community faculty) and Lauren Simkins (UVA faculty), the Spring 2021 series (beginning January 30) will focus on combining art and environmental science and advocacy. We provide a monthly supply and breakfast kit for the participating students and their younger/older siblings with the intent of the students completing the workshops at home with minimal caregiver assistance.

We received a generous gift in December 2020 from the Prana Fund and Karyn and Brice Smith to finance this workshop series for 50 local students. We were absolutely floored when we hit that limit within just a few hours of posting our program registration link on Twitter. Within three days - at the time of setting up this Go Fund Me, we have 167 students registered. Our immediate response was to find ways to expand this program so that we can involve as many local students as possible. We have been seeking resources and creatively strategizing how to make Saturday Series available to more students beyond our current capacity of 50. And we are asking for your help.

We hope to crowdsource funding for an additional 150 students. Funds will go toward crafting supplies (see here for supplies associated with each workshop), printing costs, and breakfast kits (Bodo's bagels, fruit, and juice; accommodating for food allergies). The total cost per student for all 5 workshops is about $70. Any amount will help us expand the program to meet the needs of the community!
