Help us get (nearly) home

Losing your home is always traumatic. Losing your home with nowhere to go is an extra layer of cruelty.

I lost my stable job and have been trying to freelance while I look for a new position. My mom effectively had to retire for medical reasons after being made redundant from her nonprofit role in 2022. Already struggling to make ends meet, we then received word that the place we were staying in was sold to new management, who wanted more money than we could give. With prospects uncertain, we returned to the Chicago area to try to keep body and soul together, but the place we are currently staying in is going to increase the rate. We don't know how long we can survive.

I am not asking for the moon. Instead, all I ask is simply for a chance at normalcy, where my mom can continue to get the care she needs and I can continue to work, while my mom, sister and I can safely assess our long-term prospects to see what we're supposed to do next.

The Irish playwright Beckett wrote: "You must go on, I can't go on, I'll go on." We keep moving forward despite talks of a recession and an uncertain economy. Your help, no matter how large or small, will help my family and I go on.

Thanks for reading and your support.
