Before I tell you all of the wonderful things we plan to do at CREATE, I want to tell you a bit about the inspiration behind it: my son. My son is a curious, creative, six-year-old boy.  He is unfailingly kind, incredibly bright, and, at the moment, deeply obsessed with Pokemon. He is also miserable at school. He is a gifted child in a school district that has virtually no options for gifted children, and he is an out-of-the-box thinker trapped in a school system that has determined that every child must fit into a preconceived mold.  We are failing him and hundreds of other kids like him, and in order to do right by them, we must fundamentally reimagine the foundation of their education, which is precisely what I intend to do.


As an award-winning teacher with two master’s degrees in education, I’m in a good position to identify and correct the current issues in our educational system, but I can’t do it alone. Fortunately, I have found a group of people who want to reimagine the foundation of education with me, and with their help, I have assembled a Board comprised of award-winning educators, school administrators, and professionals with legal and technological knowledge. This means we not only have the motivation, but also the skills necessary to change things for students like my son.  To do this, we are working to develop CREATE Conservatory, a non-profit 501(c)(3) private school that will use arts integration to provide a high-quality elementary education to gifted, creative children in our community.


CREATE (Caring Rigorous Educators using Arts to Transform Education) Conservatory grounds their curriculum in empirically-supported models of instruction that include: authentic assessment, higher-level questioning, cooperative learning, and integration of the arts through cross-curricular exploration.  At CREATE Conservatory, our students will find an exciting, rigorous, and inclusive space to learn—a place where each child’s unique qualities are celebrated, not stifled.


We can make the world a better place for children like my son, and in doing so, we can equip them with the skills they need to make the world a better place for all of us someday.  But to do that, we need your help.
