Help us bury our friend, AJ.

We are grieving the loss of a son, young father, brother and friend. Alvon "AJ" Jones was killed in the early hours on December 12, 2019.
AJ was a sincere soul driven to chart his own path. He would have been 25 years old on December 31st of this year. He is survived by his mother, brothers, and his beautiful children.
AJ was a determined and caring guy -- Things really mattered to him. The world told him to look out for himself, but AJ believed in creating community. He believed that people should depend on each other. As one of the original team members at The First 72+, he especially wanted to make youth in New Orleans feel like they belonged and were cared for. He was a big brother, first to Josh and Ronald, and then to teens growing up in the 7th ward and New Orleans East neighborhoods. He would mentor them and be present when they were feeling most vulnerable. AJ was also a committed advocate for juvenile criminal justice reform in his city. Most recently, he was a small business owner and entrepreneur. AJ started "Detail Dat: Mobile Car Detailing" and "International Hauling" with the dream that he would one day pass it along to his children, so that they would never have to struggle, the way he had to struggle, just to survive.
AJ still had a lot of love to give and work to do. Our hearts are broken not just because we miss him, but because  he had so much life left to live. He wanted nothing more than to see his children grow up and be proud of their dad. His memory surely will make them proud. He is dearly missed.

Rest in peace and power, AJ.
