Help Upper Dublin Family Displaced by Tornado

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Carol Young. In the 60+ years, my husband, Ron, and I have lived in Montgomery County, we have never experienced the magnitude of local devastation we have witnessed as a result of Hurricane Ida. While our hearts are heavy from the damage and devastation the tornados caused to the community, friends, and family's homes and businesses, we firmly believe in the power of community.

I am fundraising for Upper Dublin Mom, Jennifer Savadove, and her displaced family due to the tornado destroying her home as a result of Hurricane Ida.

Please take a moment to read Jennifer's story shared below and please consider donating to this strong family in need of some love and help from our community during this difficult time.

"My 16-year-old had expedited open heart surgery at Boston Children's to fix PAPVR. Two of her veins were going to the wrong side of the heart. She was unknowingly born with this congenital heart defect but was misdiagnosed for years saying sports-induced asthma. She also needed a pacemaker because of a discovered electrophysiological issue. Her heart rate was going down to 32 bpm instead of increasing like it should have. The surgery heart-wise went well but the recovery has been very difficult- she has chronic all-over body pain and has been having aura migraines that cause her to lose vision. We were scheduled to go back to the Pain/ Headache Program and see the cardiac team @ Boston Children's a few days after school started on September 1st. The kids were going back to Upper Dublin and Fort Washington Elementary School after 18 months of doing virtual school because of Covid and keeping the kids home because of the recent open-heart surgery and the big sister being immunocompromised.

September 1st- the tornado hit and destroyed every room in the house. Trees through the girl's bedroom roof, water, exterior damage, totaled roof, etc...

My 45-year-old brother with Down Syndrome lives with me and the tree went through to his room. The girls (9) and (16) lost everything! A few days after the tornado, we stopped the clean up and we headed back to Boston Children's Hospital for the week.

This is very hard for me because I’ve lived in that house for 21 years, and have been financially independent, paying the mortgage on my own since my (16) year old was 9 months.

Any little bit will help as we are now starting again from ground zero for ourselves and our home. Material items can be replaced, we are lucky to be alive together. "
