Help a Ukrainian family who had their car stolen

Help our family get back on our feet after having our car stolen and totaled by the teenage thieves

My name is Olena Stasiuk, on February 10th, my husband, two children (a 8-year-old girl and a 22-month-old boy), and I arrived from Ukraine. We settled in Covington, a location we chose for its perceived safety. About 2 weeks ago we purchased a used KIA Forte to be able to commute for work. Unfortunately, we were not able to insure it right away because many insurance companies refused to do it, and we were still working on finding an insurance provider.

A few days ago, our car was stolen from directly in front of our house. Yesterday, we received a call from the police informing us that they found the car, but it had been in an accident in Renton. This incident made headlines in the area.

Six teenagers ran a red light in our KIA after midnight and crashed into another car. The driver, who was 18 years old, was arrested, and his passengers are only between 15-16 years old. Excessive speed was a factor. Later we learned about the “KIA boyz” tiktok challenge, where thieves post videos online of stealing certain models of KIA and driving the cars.

Our car was completely totaled. We found ourselves devoid of funds, a vehicle, and the means to commute to work or for handling paperwork.

We are reaching out to our community for support in this difficult time.

As a result of this accident, we are unable to work and cannot afford a new vehicle without assistance. We have been struggling to make ends meet and are worried about our financial situation. Any amount you can donate would be greatly appreciated and would go a long way towards helping us get back on our feet.
