Help Troy Evenson medical expenses

On November 13, Troy was taken by ambulance from work to the ER at NIMC and then later admitted. He was dizzy/lightheaded, blurred vision, with vomiting and an extreme headache, but awake and alert. We were told that tests ruled out a seizure, heart attack or a stroke. We were also told the CT Scan showed a previous possible stroke, but no recent stroke. His symptoms persisted until half way through the following day, when they began to worsen. He had another CT scan and it showed a change. There was a few crazy moments with many people everywhere, and the next thing we knew, he had gone Code Blue and was immediately intubated and taken to the ICU. He was no longer conscious. We were we told a Neuro Surgeon was reading the results and would relay the official findings the nurse right away, so she could tell us. Shortly thereafter, we were told the Neuro Surgeon was coming IN to the hospital to talk to us face to face. He did and options were discussed. He confirmed Troy had a massive stroke in the back of his brain and the swelling was putting pressure on his spinal cord and made it a challenge for his airway and he was unable to breathe on his own without the intubation. Troy was hellicopter’ed to Rush University Medical Center downtown, and had emergency surgery to alleviate the pressure and the excess fluids in his brain. They also placed a catheter into the front of his head to measure and monitor. As the doctor told us, they performed “a life-saving and life changing surgery”.

Troy has been in ICU at Rush for just over a week now, and has been working daily, with Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy. He has made some amazing progress very quickly and we are so thankful. Troy is a fighter and is unbelievable tough. He has amazed the medical staff and we are all so happy with the positive progress. He still has a long way to go yet, but he is very determined.

In the meantime, he is still in the hospital and will keep working towards being able to leave the ICU and move to the Stroke Floor. Once he progresses enough to be discharged, he will then move to an Inpatient Stroke Care and Rehabilitation Facility for an estimated 7-10 days.

If you know Troy personally, you know he is the first person to stop what he is doing and help anyone with their car, or with repairing anything that has a motor, anything around the house etc. He is a very giving person who is always there to help you when you need help. Troy is an awesome father whose love for his children is endless. We ask that you keep Troy in your prayers. The future and the timeline for his return to ‘normal’ is uncertain, so if you are able, please consider assisting him with medical bills and other ongoing expenses that he will be presented with.
