Help SOFT UK Support Trisomy 13 & 18 Families
Who are SOFT UK?
We are a very special charity that supports everyone affected by Trisomy 13 (Patau’s Syndrome) or Trisomy 18 (Edwards’ Syndrome). SOFT UK was founded in 1991 by two mums whose children were diagnosed with these rare and life limiting conditions. Today SOFT UK is an organisation run by families for families, providing support and information for the whole family; putting families in touch with each other to reduce the isolation a Trisomy diagnosis can bring; and celebrating the lives of our Trisomy children, however long or short they may be.
Our 30th Anniversary Event
Every year we bring families together from all over the UK to connect, gain support and hear from Trisomy 13/ 18 experts. This year however we feel a virtual event will be safer and more accessible for our families, many of whom have children with complex needs. This virtual event will hold the same opportunities for our families, bringing our children and their families from across the UK together (virtually), providing opportunities for them to connect with each other, share experiences and build supportive friendships that go far beyond the event itself.
We have attendance from national and international experts in the care of children with Trisomy, who will speak at the event and run an ‘advice clinic’ for families.
We will be launching a wonderful new exhibition about families' experience of Trisomy, which has been developed in conjunction with Same but Different CIC, an award winning, visual story-telling charity.
We will hold a special virtual remembrance event to remember and celebrate the lives of the Trisomy children that we have lost.
There will be plenty of opportunity for families to connect and socialise and we will provide fun activities for children too.
This event is especially important at this time as many of our families have experienced stressful pregnancies, bereavement or have been shielding their medically fragile and vulnerable children during the COVID 19 pandemic.
We are seeking support so that we can offer this event completely free to our families. There are costs associated with ensuring reliable and professional tech services are in place to ensure this virtual event is accessible to all, and that it is all captured on film so it can be viewed on our website and YouTube channel by more families affected by Trisomy for years to come.

The SOFT UK Virtual Family Event will take place on Friday 17, Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 September 2021.
