Help Tony with medical expenses
Donation protected
Hello everyone! As you all know dad was diagnosed with ALS, more commonly referred to as Lou Gherigs disease, two years ago this month. We have been very fortunate with his health since and have been lucky enough to have most medical expenses covered by the VA. Over the past few weeks dad has gotten progressively more weak as the ALS has advanced and last Friday he was admitted to St Joseph's Hospital for elevated cardiac enzymes as well as to keep him hydrated. While there doctors were able to place a peg tube and after 5 days he was able to return home. Unfortunately he now requires a hospital bed at the house and we have found that although Medicare supplies a bed it is essentially a rental and not ours to keep. In addition, it also comes with a standard mattress which is not going to be sufficient once he needs to spend more than a few hours a day in bed. After looking online I've found that higher end hospital beds for the home typically range between 1 and 2 thousand dollars. Although not significantly pricey, between the extended stay at the hospital, the surgery cost and all the new supplies needed for the peg tube expenses are starting to add up quickly for my parents. I've decided to start this fundraiser without dad knowing to see if I can surprise him with a comfortable, more appropriate bed for his current condition as well as the future condition we know he will eventually be in. Any donations would be appreciated and I thank you all in advance.
