Help to transform cancer sufferer Nicki’s garden

Nicki has lived in Berkhamsted in the same house for the last 30 years. As she has gotten older and suffered financially she has not been able to continue to maintain the garden as she wanted.
Nicki was then diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 just before Covid 19 struck. She then lost her business at the start of the pandemic when she got unwell, and wasn’t eligible for any government support.
She underwent chemotherapy but due to the pandemic they asked her to undertake an abnormally short course of chemotherapy, with more compressed sessions. The chemotherapy, while curing her cancer, left her with irreparable burns on her lungs from the radiation and unable to breath. She has struggled to walk since.
Nicki has since been diagnosed with Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, leaving her on oxygen 24/7 and unable to do any work at home.
Nicki has now been taken back to the hospital by ambulance, this time diagnosed with Pulmonary hypertension and at risk of heart failure. She is stressed and refused at first to go in the ambulance because she needed to work on her garden.
While she is in hospital members of the community plan a radical transformation of her back garden. Removing the rubbish and cutting back decades of overgrowth. We will then apply new topsoil and turf, giving Nicki a tranquil space at home to relax and to heal. We want to do all of this before she gets out of hospital and to transform this garden in just five days!
Every small donation helps us to pay for machinery, soil and new turf. Nicki has no money, no savings and no pension as everything was exhausted to get her through the lockdowns. She has helped people in her community for three decades and we hope now the community can also come together and help her to get better
