Help to save sight from Acanthamoeba keratitis

Donation protected
Hi my name is Katie and i was diagnosed with a rare eye disease called Acanthamoeba Keratitis in August 2019.

The disease itself is rare and there is no known cure other than a cocktail of eye drops which essentially are watered down pool cleaners which causes damage to your eyes even further.

Acanthamoeba keratitis attacks the nerves in the eye and is severely painful, there aren't many story's where people who have contracted this awful disease have had their sight restored. I have lived in a dark room for over a year not being able to go out in the light or even bare the lights in the house and this is what happens to the majority of people who have it. Depression, anxiety and the unknown creep in and there's literally no light at the end of the tunnel bar to lose your sight.

I'm trying to raise funds to help research the disease and to ultimately try and help find a cure to save people's sight.

The disease is becoming more common and is on the rise. You can catch it from water, soil and dust if it gets in your eyes. People who wear contact lenses are more prone to contract Acanthamoeba keratitis.

People who have AK have to take several different types of drops hourly a day for around 12 hours and this is the case from 1 to 5 years and in the end some cases have had their eye removed and most have unfortunately lost their sight.

Please help me in finding a way to cure this diabolical disease and save people's sight.

Thank you for taking the time to read my brief story.
