Help this blind girl see again!

Hello everyone, my name is Jenni & I'm here because the situation with my eyes has become desperate enough for me to try this out in the hope that a simple, genuine plea for help might find answer in the kindness of strangers.. This does not come easily, since I hate to be a burden on anyone & I'm stubborn & independent to a fault at times, but I don't know what else to do. Problem is, I'm extremely nearsighted & at this point I'm down to one contact lens (which isn't even the correct strength), no back-up glasses (my last pair ended up a puppys'  chew toy) & I'm dreading what will happen when this one is done for.. My basic functioning is already significantly impaired, I'm actively looking for work but unsure of my ability to meet job requirements in this state & there is simply no way I could do any job with totally unaided vision. (To explain a little better, I wear a -6.50 strength lens in both eyes, which means I'm somewhere in the upwards range of 20/800 to put it that way.. they actually stop at the 20/200 mark on standard eye charts though). I can't even see the big E on my best day. I also have astigmatism in both eyes, with different corrections for right & left. I am truly blind as a bat & embarrassingly helpless without my contacts. Crossing the street is pretty much out of the question, & even in familiar surroundings many tasks are beyond me.. Basically, I'm screwed. With no insurance & no money to re-order lenses, it's a depressing situation. On top of that, my prescription recently expired so there's the additional expense of an exam before I can do so. (Prescriptions are only good for 1 year, despite mine having been the same for over 20, the law requires it constantly be renewed anyway). A back-up pair of glasses is really necessary as well, for emergencies like this & just to let the eyes breathe sometimes, so with all of this considered I came up with a fairly accurate estimate. Any help would be appreciated beyond measure. Thank you to anyone willing or able to get me through this low point (between homes & jobs atm) so I can get back on track- & also just for taking the time to read this..
