Help The Wallen Family

Hello everyone. As many of you know and for those who don't, my father was in a traumatic car accident back in 2014, when he was hit head on by a drunk driver going the wrong way on the highway.

We thought my father had sustained minor injuries, but as time went on, my father's injuries were definitely more serious. He was in the ICU for two days because he had a broken sternum, six broken ribs, and a brain injury that he still struggles with to this day. My father was able to get workman's compensation because the accident happened during work. After one year of workman's comp, he settled and has not had a paycheck since. My mother is a teacher's aide in the Runnemede School District and has been for fifteen years. She loves what she does, and knew from the first day that this was her career. However, since my father doesn't have a paycheck coming in, my mother has been the sole income for my parents. Unfortunately, my mother's monthly income is less than their mortgage payment.

Fast forward to current day, almost three years since the accident, my father still hasn't received any help from SSD (Social Security Disability). He has applied twice and is awaiting a date for court. He has not heard anything new. Because my parents are running low on funds, they were not able to cosign for my college loans. I attend Rutgers University-Camden and have been there since January of 2016. This semester I found out that I wasn't getting any help financially. Rutgers gives all students around $3,000 to help cut the costs. However, this would leave me around $4,000 each semester out of pocket. After countless calls to the financial aid office and putting in an appeal to show dire need, they told me through an email that I would only be receiving an extra $750 per semester. I am grateful for my cost of college to be less than expected, but I still can't spend around $3,000 of money that I don't have. I only have three semesters (including this semester) until I have my Bachelor's Degree. It's difficult dealing with this when I am so close to the end.

As a daughter with parents who provided everything for her, I hate watching them have to go through this. My family is very proud and stubborn which means we hate asking for help. I'm here to say: we need it.

The Wallen Family would like to say thank you in advance. Any amount would be beneficial to us and we can't thank you enough. Please share.
