Christian Rehe, an active 21 year old, began having knee pain back in January. We all thought it was a minor injury from Taekwondo, but it never got better. His doctor sent him for an MRI. The Doctor called Karrie with the results of Christian’s MRI on their wedding anniversary while she was with her visiting Mom at Colony Day’s in Palmer, AK. It showed a tumor on his right distal femur, which is a rare cancer called osteosarcoma. Since there are not any sarcoma teams in the state of Alaska, Karrie, Graham and the doctors began getting the ball rolling for him to be treated at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Once in Seattle they were able to transfer Christian’s care over to Seattle Children’s Hospital, since they have the better team for this cancer.
Christian has started chemo and has currently completed his 10th of 18 rounds. He had his Limb Salvage Surgery to remove the tumor in his right distal femur on September 19th.
The Rehe Family has had to set up a second household in Seattle while Christian is there for treatment. While still maintaining their permanent household in Alaska with all bills there also.
Please continue to pray for Christian! He is being so strong, but as you can imagine he is becoming overwhelmed with the information, decisions and the physical strains from treatment.
Christian and his family have a very long road ahead of them. The Rehe Family is well known and loved by many. While insurance is covering most of the expenses, there are still things that need to be mailed, bought and paid for that are not covered, not to mention delays with insurance reimbursement. Please do what you can to help ease the financial burden, so that they can focus their energy on helping Christian get healthy, and back home to his family and friends.
