Sprinkle some love and help "Perennial Playground" grow! This fundraiser is only part of a much larger budget, but a little help goes a long way.

Approximately half of the total budget is allocated solely for trucking and transportation expenses! While we strive to recycle, reuse, and raise donations for physical products, we can’t upcycle the funds for trucking ;) This brings us to ask for your help with the final push to get "Perennial Playground: Germination" to the Playa!

Last year, we took our years of grief, anger, fire & plague, dusted some magical fairy shrimp on top & planted a playground! This year we’re excited to see what has started to sprout!

THE PROJECT:

For 2023, the courtyard appears as "Perennial Playground: Germination". Returning are raised garden beds filled with colorful fairy light “buds” that sway in the breeze & bloom-shaped chairs around the perimeter.

This flower garden play area will have GROWN to include a raised central padded fuzzy yellow ovary accessible via colorful petals of climbing net ladders. Reaching the top is an adventure, & gives explorers a chance to see things from a new perspective, having overcome an obstacle & being able to see the growth from last year.

IMAGINATION:

Allow us to introduce Gloria Lamb, the visionary behind the art. Gloria's passion for art and her extensive experience as a Designer and Art Director for a variety of avenues have seamlessly merged with her Burning Man journey. Since her first burn in 2007, she has been dedicated to the creation of inspiring installations and the establishment of vibrant theme camps.

Her dedication and enthusiasm for Black Rock City led her to serve as one of the Los Angeles Regional Contacts from 2013 to 2019. If you've been lucky enough to witness her glowing smile and her galaxy-colored dreadlocks while fire dancing in the Great Circle on burn nights, you know firsthand the energy she brings to this community.

This year will mark the fifth playa project she has brought to Burning Man. “Circumvolute” 2012, “Inspireality Palace” 2014, “Oh, Crap!” 2018, and “Perennial Playground: Prologue” 2022.

The newest creation, “Perennial Playground,” encompasses four different phases that each contribute to the overall vision.

THE MEANING:

Life can be complicated. The playa is a container for all of our moments of pain, joy, abundance, giggles, and even defeat. It is where we gather, create, and connect. Our joy in life, our cherished relationships, our family, and the endless opportunities that await us—they are all returning, and we are blooming once again, stronger than ever before!

If you experienced "Perennial Playground" last year, you know the playground facilitates silliness, joy, and passion. It is a piece born of a desire to connect and find beauty in all that is this rollercoaster of life.

This piece represents our perennial resilience; that we can turn our betrayal & loss into something amazing. While flowers bud, bloom, & die, they keep returning. Our joy in life, friends, family, & opportunities ARE returning, and we're blooming again, but stronger!
