Help the Parkers with their Pupper

Hi everyone,

our sweet boy Cody was attacked by another dog and received fractures to his muzzle. He was rushed to the Bellerive Animal Hospital Wednesday the 17th. There he was quickly looked after, a drip put in and we were told he had a suspected fracture.

He needed a CT scan ($$$) to check the extent of his injuries. The scan showed extensive damage with some small broken fragments, larger fractures and a tooth that had been pushed up into his nasal cavity. We were told he would need surgery and all of the risks and complications that it would involve (there were quite a few). There was a huge risk that the jaw wouldn't align properly after the surgery and that Cody would never eat normally again. The surgeon was very hopeful though.

We decided to go ahead with the surgery.

The surgery took hours but Cody pulled through and woke up well after the anaesthetic. His jaw aligned perfectly (PHEW!). The surgeon did a fantastic job and managed to reattach his bones using plates. Cody is now nicknamed "Plate Face" as he is the proud new owner of FIVE plates. He has a pretty epic scar.

Cody cannot eat so he has a feeding tube sticking out of his throat and is syringed fed his meals. Michael and I are going to learn how to do that today so that when Cody is home we can feed him until he can use his mouth again.

We are hoping that he doesn't have any nerve damage and can still use his sniffer. Time will tell.

He was slowly weaned off his cocktail of pain meds and had his drip taken out today. He also sniffed some chicken and even tried to nibble it a little (whoo).

The Vet bills will be upwards of $12,000 and even after that he will need check ups, the removal of his feeding tube, scarring removal from his nose and further scans to monitor the healing.

We know it is a challenging time of year but every little donation will be HUGELY appreciated.

Cody will be looking forward to coming back home. His Fur siblings miss him terribly.
