Help the Lockard Family Stay Afloat

Donation protected
Three years ago, Robert Lockard was diagnosed with tonsil cancer. His battle with cancer would eventually take away his ability to generate saliva, his ability to work, and inevitably cause him to be deemed disabled.  He had no idea that his fight against cancer would be easy compared to the fight I would face against his insurance company. In 2014, cancer changed Robert Lockard’s life, but in the three years since he was diagnosed, Lincoln National Life Insurance Company has ruined it.

Until his cancer diagnosis, Robert lived the American Dream. He worked hard as a Giben Saw Operator with Airstream, one of the best jobs around. With this job, he proudly made a life for his wife and son and he believed that if anything were to happen to him, he would be covered under the plan that he had paid for through Airstream with Lincoln National Life Insurance.

Fortunately, through the first round of surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy doctors were able to eradicate the cancer. But shortly after the treatment ended he began to experience excruciating bone, shoulder, and neck pain. His condition deteriorated and eventually the Social Security Administration determined that he was disabled and unable to work. Robert had to stop working and start taking disability benefits in July of 2015.

For reasons we will never truly understand, Lincoln National cut Robert's benefits on June 5, 2017, and denied him the Long-Term Disability Benefits that he had paid into for decades. They thought that because he could no longer afford to see expensive doctors that he would be unable to fight back against their team of lawyers. But Robert won't give up and is still fighting hard for the care that Lincoln National owes him and his family.

Robert hired a lawyer to fight back against the insurance company, but the fight is expensive. Robert and his lawyer are confident that the insurance company will eventually realize that ignoring the opinions of Robert’s doctors and the Social Security Administration, who assured them that because Robert cannot stand for more than 5 min he is unable to return to work, was wrong. But the legal fight is expensive and Robert may need to settle with the insurance company soon so that he can pay his heating and electrical bills. Every dollar donated will go towards helping the Lockard family with paying their bills, putting food on the table, and paying the $9000 in legal fees that Robert has incurred fighting for the insurance coverage that he was contractually owed.
