Help the Lewis family get an accessible van!
Hi, my name is Candice Monnig. My high school best friend has two boys that Duchuenne Muscular Dystrophy. They are in desperate need of a wheelchair accessible van and lift.
Brothers Alex and Bryce Lewis were diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in August of 2012. Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic, degenerative, and terminal muscle disease where their muscles will gradually weaken and cease to function over time. The progressive muscle weakness leads to serious medical problems, particularly issues relating to the heart and lungs. It is an X-linked disorder so it typically affects mainly boys. Those with DMD are typically in a wheelchair by age 7-12 with an average life expectancy of 20-30 years. There is no cure.
