Hello, I am Kristie Kilkelly. I have been fighting TRIPLE NEGATIVE BREAST CANCER for the better of 10 years now. I am currently in my second bout and this time it is STAGE IV METASTATIC, which means it has spread all over my body. I had a Grand Mal seizure in Sept 2016 and that is how we found the 7 tumors in my body including 2 in my brain.
When something like this happens, everyone is quick to help out at first. But in my case, the longer it goes on, the thinner we are stretched. We need more fundraising and help now than in the beginning! I am exhausted 23 hours a day. I try to stay positive but it is difficult when I am constantly worried about utilities, daycare, housekeeping, transportation and medical bills.
After my first bout in 2010 I found the love of my life, James Kilkelly. We got married and had 2 boys, now 6 and 4. I have been "sick" for most of my marriage and sons lives. They are all very supportive but I look forward to the day when "mommy doesn't have to go to the far away doctor to get the good medicine".
As of Sept 2018, I only have 1 tumor left in my lung! I am involved in a clinical trial in Tucson, AZ at Banner University Cancer Center. I have been getting the chemotherapy every 3 weeks since March of 2017.
When I was first re-diagnosed many people came to our aid and we have been blessed to have gotten through the past 2 years without feeling the crunch of financial burdens. However that has all changed.
I am a public school teacher in Yuma, AZ at Cibola High School. James works in Construction at Naquin Earth Movers. He has been spending weeks at a time out of town to work. Our bills have been stacking up and now we are living month to month wondering if we will have enough to buy food, gas, and so on. We do have friends helping when they can (helping us at the city to get extensions on water bills, letting me stay overnight at a family condo so I don't have to get a hotel when I travel 3.5 hours to get my treatment every 3 weeks, and even our church has help out with gas money).
Our needs our:
money!
We need to pay to fix our garage door (broke for about 6 months now)
We had to buy a new refrigerator (our broke 1 month ago)
We need to get dental work done on Blake our oldest son (but you have to pay before they will do the work)
We had to buy a new microwave (ours broke about 4 months ago)
We need to cover RENT, DAYCARE, Electricity, Car payment, car insurance.
We seem to always be behind on everything and we haven't even started to pay our deductibles this year yet (like we could if we wanted to)
James is picking up all the hours and extra work he can find and I have signed up for all the extra duties I can at the school (tutoring).
Anything you do would be more than we have now.
I would love to answer any questions you might have about my treatments or anything else.
