Help the Gelston Family with Medical Expense

Just to give an update as of the end of September, per Chris. Jackie is now at the SCAA 'Pete Gross House' for cancer outpatients, which is only a 4 min. shuttle ride to the care center. She is now 35 days post stem cell transplant', and is having pretty good success with that. The new cells are making new blood for her (curiously, she went from being an '0 positive' blood type to a '0 negative' - so it truly is different blood.

But now, the new cells have been attacking her body in different ways, called 'Graft vs Host' disease, in the form of crazy itchy skin, red bumps, etc. She says its very challenging to not scratch all of these areas, as it makes it hard to concentrate on what we would consider 'little' tasks like maintaining a checkbook, etc.

To her credit, her spirit soldiers on, and she is learning to work with these challenges. We hope that she can come home after the 100 day mark/post transpant, which should be around Thanksgiving.

With this new stage, there have been quite a bit of cost. The fuel for running supplies in and out of Seattle with a current gas price. . The family has to rent that Pete Gross apartment in downtown Seattle.

We would like to see if we can help the family a little more with expenses as the new school year starts and Jackie is still not back at work. If you can donate or SHARE this gofundme, we would really appreciate it.

We are a small group of friends trying to help a fellow friend fighting Leukemia. Jackie was recently diagnosed with Leukemia. We want to raise funds so she does not have to worry about the day-to-day expenses of her family and medical bills as she fights. We want to relieve as much stress from Jackie as we can. She will not be able to see her husband or daughters while fighting this disease. Knowing the family's day-to-day needs and expenses and any medical costs will help decrease her stress.

Jackie is a teacher at Coupeville Elementary. She teaches third grade. Jackie has taught at Coupeville for several years. Before coming to Coupeville, Jackie taught down in South Whidbey. Her family has been a part of the 4H community. She currently has one daughter in Middle School and another in College.

Jackie's family will use the funds to help pay for medical costs and day-to-day expenses due to Jackie not being able to finish the school year or start next school year. Jackie's sister is coming to be with her in the hospital. The funds will help offset any costs she will acquire while being away from home.
