Help the Family with Funeral Expenses For Waldon

Donation protected
I am Quentin Adams, youngest brother of Waldon Adams.  Unfortunately he was killed on April 24, 2021, while walking with a friend at Hains Pt Park in the morning around 10:30am.  We are working to get funeral expenses, and pay his last bills, since these things must be taken care of before this criminal case is even heard in court.  I am tasked with this in the meanwhile.   Here is a bit of his story:

Waldon grew up in Northeast Washington’s Riggs Park neighborhood, with his younger brother Quentin, and older brother Larry. Waldon Adams attended LaSalle Elementary, Backus JR high, and Coolidge High School. He did a brief stint in the Navy before falling on hard times. In a 2015 profile on WAMU-Radio, Adams recounted what the author described as a “roller-coaster life” — suffering from asthma, hooked on cocaine at age 21 and later alcohol,  and nearly losing his left hand in a cherry bomb accident. He lived on the street for several years, with respites at St. Elizabeths psychiatric hospital, where he started to run by circling his bed for 40 minutes a day.

Adams got help through Miriam’s Kitchen and Pathways to Housing, which helped find him a residence about 12 years ago. He continued to run and soon was completing marathons before he was sidelined with a back injury five years ago. He ran in the Marine Corps Marathon, the New York, Disney, Rock N Roll and several other marathons.

Waldon worked as an outreach specialist for Pathways to Housing, a non-profit agency that advocates for the homeless and gets them vouchers for housing. He has always received high praise for his work there, and for being able to relate to the many people on the street he was able to help.

Waldo recently had back surgery and was walking with a cane when he was struck down on Saturday April 24th around 10:30am, walking at Hains Pt. According to the Park Police, Waldon was walking with a female friend when a pickup truck plowed into them from behind, and kept going. Both died from their injuries before reaching the hospital. This happened on Ohio Drive, in Hains Pt Park in SW DC. The driver of the truck was found but has not yet been charged, criminal investigation is still pending.
