Help the Family of Officer Travis Gossett

Donation protected

Thank you to all friends, family, and kind strangers taking the time to read this. Early in the morning of February 14 Officer Travis Gossett of the San Antonio Police Department and former US Marine responded to an accident on Highway 281, while outside of his cruiser he was struck by a vehicle that lost control on the icy roads.

My husband, Travis's brother and a fellow SAPD officer, got the call at 3 am that he was being taken to the hospital and the injuries were life threatening. Travis had a skull fracture, multiple spinal fractures resulting in spinal cord damage, broken ribs, and a partially punctured lung. At this time he is still in serious condition in the ICU but has been making steady improvements. He has undergone intense surgery and while there is a long road ahead of him we expect that with time he can make a full recovery.

Travis and his wife Karen are expecting their first baby in May, a girl named Emily. As anyone can imagine, the burden of this news while working full time with a baby on the way has been a lot. Taking any time off now is a stressor as it cuts into time that can be used for maternity leave and that is the last thing an expectant mother should have to worry about at a time like this.

At this time it's too early to say what all will be needed in the way of resources for Travis. What we do know is that he and Karen had already chosen a daycare where they wanted to send Emily, and my goal here is to make sure that they are still able to do that without worrying about the financial burden, at least initially.

The daycare they'd chosen has generously offered to discount several months in an effort to help their family. Our goal is to help them cover the cost entirely through 2021 (with Emily beginning at the end of the summer). While it's just one thing on an infinite list it would definitely offer some peace of mind as their family grows.

Anything we are able to reach above and beyond our $5,000 goal will certainly be put to good use towards Travis's recovery, Karen's birth, and baby Emily as we intend to get all of them nothing but the best care.

Thank you for any contribution and your well wishes.
