This past Sunday October 8th, Shaun along with his young son Kaizen were moving furniture in the family room of their home, while Mom and daughters were out and about.
Shaun became concerned when their dog, began acting differently. Shaun saw his favorite toy, a red ball, tossed it to another room for distraction but the growling continued. As he approached the dog lunged and latched onto Shaun's left arm. Shaun used his right arm to wrestle the dog out the front door and away from his son.
The next 15-20 minutes are indescribable as a son watched his father bitten viciously. Thankfully their neighbor pulled up, saw and heard what was happening. Instead of hiding and ignoring the risk to himself, he did what few of us could have done and saved a life.
Shaun was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, had to undergo emergency surgery to repair the damage to his arm, and remains in the hospital 4 days later.
Both arms, right shoulder, both hands and stomach wounds that are too deep to be stitched are the physical wounds. The emotional wounds of this family, Shaun, his wife Ashley, daughters Kenzi, Kharmen and especially young Kaizen who will have a scar on his heart forever, are unimaginable. The loss of their beloved pet weighs heavy on their hearts.
The deepest concern at this point is what lays ahead. Shaun works with his hands to support his family. He manages an auto shop and rehabs houses at night and weekends. Ashley works as an office temp with no paid time off.
As most young couples they live paycheck to paycheck and will soon be at a critical point.
It will be weeks before Shaun can return to work. Ashley's income alone can't pay the bills. With a house payment, car payment, utilities, and feeding his family, it seems an overwhelming and difficult task, especially for someone as proud and hard-working as Shaun.
Anything you could bless them with to keep their family going and allow Shaun to heal would be so greatly appreciated.
