Help the Children of South Africa

Don protégé
Annalie Moolman has dedicated her adult life to helping the Children of Pearston South Africa achieve a better life.  Annalie teaches English, Geography, Math and Art to fourth grade students in this impoverished part of the Great Karoo, an area that is 94% non-white with poor agricultural soils, little rainfall and few economic opportunities.  The Pearston Primary (Elementary ) School is underfunded, under supplied and seriously understaffed causing Annalie to hire an assistant and purchase school supplies from her own small salary to better teach her three classes of 40 students each.   Annalie also reaches out to customers of her families tourism business for assistance in improving these children's lives.

We were blessed to come to know Annalie three years ago and shocked to learn that while the School had a computer room, it had no computers.  The students at Pearston Primary School have no access to computers, no controlled access to the internet and no idea of the world outside of Pearston.  In years past, we asked friends and local businesses to donate over 20 high quality laptop computers, which we had professionally cleaned and re-programed and we purchased, with our own funds, an office quality Cannon printer, reams of paper and boxes of ink cartridges, as well as sports equipment, toys and gifts for Annalie's 4th grade students.  This year we have 10 more computers and many more gifts for delivery to the school.

Past year's Fund Raisers supported an orphanage (which no longer requires our support) Food for Students at Pearston Primary School and an annual Christmas Party.  This year's FUND RAISER has three goals:

Better Student Nutrition:

Many of the Children of Pearston have to travel miles to attend school and can not make the trip daily.  These students live in a Student Hostel provided by the government to address this issue.  The Hostel is underfunded and the children are underfed.  Much of the allotted food never reaches the Hostel and there is significant diversion from the monthly delivery at the school.  Last year we raised several thousands of US$ to provide nutrition for these students.  Annalie supervises the weekly purchase and delivery of food to insure freshness and control diversion, resulting in children who are better fed, better behaved and better students with a better future.  We are hoping to raise at least $2,000.00 to continue feeding these children.

The THIRD Annual Christmas Party
Last Year, all of the Students at Pearston Primary School and ALL of the pre-school children in Pearston were invited to a Christmas Party.  Annalie, her family and many volunteers donated their time to decorate the gathering place, individually wrap 650 presents, purchase and prepare food and fruit drinks and organize entertainment.  Despite Pearston being an overwhelming Christian Community, this was the only Christmas Celebration these children attended and for almost all, these were the only Christmas presents they received.  Please help us raise $2,000.00 to continue this tradition and show these exceedingly poor children that someone cares about them.

Splash Park

This is a new endeavor and we pray for your support.  The Great Karoo is similar to the drier parts of Nevada or New Mexico, with no recreational water, no rivers, streams, ponds or lakes.   We have received written permission to install a Splash Park on a fenced-in portion of the School property and Annalie's friends, family and fellow parishioners have pledged construction assistance and organization of the ongoing supervision needs of the Splash Park.  The Splash Park will be a sturdy, robust African-ized version, simple to construct and maintain, yet loads of fun  for the local kids.  Since most of the labor will be volunteer, we need to raise at least $2000.00 to fund the materials to provide a concrete pad, 1000 liter tank, filter, pump and piping and a stipend for operational expenses.  The spray nozzles are easily made by hand and as is the "Tipping Bucket".  The Splash Park will be open when School is closed and the out-of-work teachers will provide supervision and control at an extremely low cost.  The School is supplying the electricity and the water, which is recirculated to conserve this scarce resource.  Admission to the Splash Park will be limited to school age and younger children and the price of admission is a small bag of LITTER, which provides a colored wrist band allowing a weeks visit.  Almost everything is reused in this poor community and that which is not instantly becomes LITTER, fouling the environment.  Once the Splash Park is open, LITTER will become valuable and will be saved instead of discarded.  Existing LITTER will be picked up, allowing this area to return to its natural beauty and the Children of Pearston will have a healthy and happy recreational activity that currently does not exist.  We pray that this Splash Park and LITER collection will be successful and will become a model for other schools and communities for the benefit of all Children, all Communities and the Environment.  No moneys raised through this Fund Raiser or any other will be used for Ed's or Cynthia's travel or expenses.

If you are reading this, you have been blessed beyond the imagination of these children.   Please use this opportunity to share your blessings with those who are not so fortunate.

Thank you and may God bless you as you have been a blessing to others.
