Hi my name is Tess Johnson! As of February, I have been selected to represent the United States at the World Junior Ultimate Championships(WJUC) in Waterloo, Canada. This is an absolute honor and as I am thrilled to represent, the trip is quite expensive and I need your support! Costs include travel to training camp, the tournament, housing, transportation, field space, and coaches.
I have been playing Ultimate Frisbee for about four years now and it has changed my life completely. I started playing when I joined high school and I instantly fell in love with the program. With this being my second year as a captain, I’ve helped develop the program from around 20 players to over 50. It is such an incredible opportunity to be a part of people joining Ultimate and watching them fall in love with it the same way I did.
Every summer I play for my regional team that competes in youth nationals called BUDA (Boston Ultimate Disc Alliance). Last year we lost in the semi finals to the team that ended up winning the championship. I also play for a competitive women’s team in the Boston area called Siege. I first started playing with this team when I was 16, with the average age of the team being in the mid-20’s. It is an eye opening experience to play and compete alongside female athletes who are older than me.
Ultimate is a lot more than a sport to me. It is where I have met my closest friends, where my brother Tannor and I have become closest, and where I know that the sky is truly the limit.
