"On February 14th 2020, I wished I was celebrating love, instead I was fighting for my life yet again. Every episode is closer to the brink of death than life, where blood is replaced by glass and joint movements feels like broken bones. This is my life!"
Temi is a young single mother living with sickle cell anemia for over three decades, the frequent crisis episodes from over three decades has finally unleashed the worst news on us. A diagnosis has revealed advanced bilateral Avascular Necrosis of the head of both femur. The doctors have recommended two major bilateral replacement surgeries (Total Hip Replacement) to help her manage pain, correct the deformity, and improve her functional capacity.
This estimated cost of the surgery is as stated below:
1. Knee Joint Prostetics $5000
2. Power tools and accessories $550
3. Surgical consumables $1500
4. Labs and investigations $750
5. Surgeon Fee $3000
6. Hospital stay $700
7. Medications and Rehabilitation $1800
8. Total $13,300
The motivation for this GoFundMe initiative is to assist Temi in paying for the surgery and maximizing her recovery by assisting her during the months of rehabilitation that lies ahead for her. Temi’s family had asked for privacy during this past year. After much persuasion, they have allowed Temi's friends to set up this GoFundMe for her. Due to her worsening condition, it is imminent that the surgery be carried out before July 4th, 2020 else she may loose her lower limbs functioning permanently.
We're hoping her treatment also tells a story of hope to the sickle cell patients around her. Any amount of monetary donations would be greatly appreciated. If you’re unable to donate, we would appreciate you sharing her story - not just for Temi's benefit, but for others like her as well.
