Help Tania & her ailing dad

Donation protected
My name is Tania, I live in Victoria BC, Canada and here is my story. I was born & raised in very special part of India, Amritsar, Punjab. I had a very happy childhood before moving away after an arranged marriage, which turned very abusive and now I am a single mom to my ray of sunshine 7 year old son.

I had always nurtured a dream to have my loving parents visit me in Canada and the special day when their visa for Canada was approved came in October 2017. I hadn’t seen them in 3 years and they were meeting their grandson for only the second time as the last time they had seen him was in India when he was only 2 years old.

They arrived with big smiles and tears of joy. My dad felt fine when he arrived until one day he started feeling unwell. I took him to the doctor and the next day while on my job, I heard something that no one would ever want to hear. The Doctor’s words were “Tania, take your dad to ER as he is in kidney failure”. With my hands and legs shaking, I left work and rushed him to ER. Seeing your dad hooked up to machines and doctors working desperately to save his life is something I would never wish on anyone.

My Dad has undergone 4 surgeries since then and stayed in the hospital for over 3 weeks. In all this trauma to our family, I then found out that when my parents arrived on their visitor visa, they did not have enough travel insurance to cover their full trip to Canada. I tried many insurance companies and was denied as I was asking for insurance when it was more than 30 days since they had been in Canada (at that time, Dad was healthy and well with no issues at all).

There was definitely no possibility of him getting insurance after he fell critically ill. The hospital room rent alone cost $3,600 a day and I don’t even make that much in a month to make ends meet. And it didn’t end there as the latest update is my father’s one wound keeps getting re-infected again that might lead to 5th surgery or more expenses, including home nursing until he fully recovers.

All of the medical expenses have accumulated to more than $100,000 CAD. I’m so thankful that my Dad will survive this ordeal but the bills continue to pile up and I am left with a huge lifetime debt of $100K that I cannot imagine how I can ever pay by myself.

I work very hard to save for my son’s education and make him a good man who respects women and is loyal and caring person. I work 2 part time jobs so I can provide for my son and I, and now I am providing for my parents too. My father is a retired man and both my parents had saved up their funds so they could visit their daughter and grandson as they always worry about me because I have no other relatives in Canada.

My parents are depressed every day and feel helpless and a burden as they are worried about this huge bill. I have nowhere to go and can hardly see through it. I am keeping strong for now but feeling devastated.

I’m hopeful that my story will be heard and anyone able to offer assistance will reach out to us. It’s extremely hard to be in this position and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone but we’re trying to remain positive that others might be able to help.
