Poor Tango had only experienced a few short weeks of the good life before falling extremely ill. His health is now critical and we need help saving his, and possibly his brother Whiskey's, young lives.
We pulled Tango and Whiskey from a rural shelter in South Carolina and placed them in foster care. As is usually the case, these puppies were in serious need of some TLC, and we got to work on that right away. We thought the boys were getting better.
Over the weekend Tango became extremely ill extremely quickly. His little eyes were nearly matted shut with muscous, he was coughing and wheezing, depressed and listless, and he could not keep down any food.
When Tango was seen at the vet today, our fears were confirmed. The vets suspect distemper and/or canine influenza in addition to pneumonia. Tango is now being hospitalized at Virginia Veterinary Specialists for around the clock care to give him a fighting chance of living through this. The next 48 hours will be critical to his survival.
Distemper is a very serious and highly contagious illness that is often fatal, especially in young puppies like Tango who's immune system's are already compromised. We have already invested quite a bit in these brothers and are desperately in need of help funding Tango's emergency life saving care. While the brothers were separated as soon as Tango showed symptoms of illness, we are also preparing for the fact that he may fall ill as well, in addition to any of the other dogs that were on this transport.
Time is of the essence and we need your help! Please help us give Tango the care that he needs. No amount is too small.
