Hi my name is Maria Salcedo and I am the coordinator for the Kalpulli program at HOMEY. The Kalpulli Leadership Program's mission is to educate, organize, and empower youth ages 13 to 24 years old. In the indigenous Nahuatl language “Kalpulli” literally means “large house”. Kalpulli’s are neighborhoods or groups organized to carry out a common purpose such cultural activities, the education, protection, or the care for community members.
This year our goal is to take our youth on their first-ever trip to Disneyland. Our program consists of 25 young community members from the Mission District in San Francisco. They are working hard to fundraise the funds to go on their trip by selling handmade jewelry, cultural clothing, and food. This is one of our largest groups and we require additional funds to accomplish our goal. Please donate to our cause. Our youth is really excited.
HOMEY is a grassroots, non-profit organization rooted in San Francisco, California. For 23 years, HOMEY has identified community issues adversely affecting the youth, young adults and families in our city and we are dedicated to empowering community members in making transformative change through individual and community success. We do this by supporting youth and families with educational enrichment programming, social services, resource referrals, leadership development and cultural activities, educational workshops, advocacy efforts, but most importantly with love. At HOMEY we say, “This is a place where dreams come true.”
HOMEY works directly with youth and young adults in schools, on the street and in jails to deliver our brand of workshops, services and empowerment activities to our community. We also work with families providing rental assistance, Covid-19 testing, food empowerment and many other services. The HOMEY team is excited to continue building with our community and supporting the many families that come through our doors each day.
