Help TAJ CHARLES With New Sewing Equipment

I would like to start by saying thank you again to everyone for the support on the first run of sales. It is much appreciated. I am so happy to see everyone in their robes and proud to have delivered my first set of orders. 

A bit about my line if you are just learning about me...
TAJ CHARLES is a line of loungewear created out of the desire to add more fun and a touch of luxury to the way we dress at home and in our leisure time.

As a new business starting during a pandemic, it has not been without its challenges. Having lost my livelihood as a DJ due to the pandemic, it has been difficult to cover the start up costs of the line as that has been my source of income for the past 5 years. To efficiently sew to the quality I would like for my pieces, I will need a few new pieces of equipment which unfortunately I cannot afford on my own right now. I was fortunate to have had access to one of the machines I needed at the start of my first production run, but the machine is not functioning consistently enough for me to use anymore. In order to operate as a business I do need consistent, well working tools, so that I can make production deadlines and ensure the quality of my work. 


To continue to be able to create and deliver quality pieces I have started this Go Fund Me page to raise money needed to assist me with new equipment and startup costs.


My goal is to raise $4,000. I have included a detailed breakdown of expenses and what they will be used for below. If I receive more than I need or end up needing less, I will split the remaining funds and make a donation to the following charities. 

Black Legal Action Centre - a non-profit community legal clinic that provides free legal services for low or no income Black residents of Ontario.

Shelley Cares - a registered not-for-profit charitable organization guided by a mission to positively impact local communities by confronting poverty and hunger.

Imani’s Place - A safe haven to end domestic violence and human trafficking against women.


Outline of expenses:

UPDATE: PURCHASED -Serger 

Estimated cost: $1,000 - $1,300
- Industry standard finishing for the best quality.
- 5 Thread - not industrial, SINGER 14T968DC Professional 5 Serger Overlock or similar.

Domestic Sewing Machine

Estimated cost: $350 - $450
- Must be able to do button holes and 3 step zigzag stitch.
- Heavy duty - meant for continued use, SINGER 7258 Stylist or similar.

Start Holiday Collection

Estimated cost: $1,200
- Pattern Making, sample making and grading.
- to expand the size range of my current patterns to include Extra Small, 1X and 2X sizing.
- Fabric and Notions.
- Pay a second seamstress to assist with production.


Any remaining money will be used as a buffer for any additional unforeseen costs associated with the above. 


NOTE: I am also open to the sewing machines being donated or not buying brand new as long as they are in excellent working condition. If you or anyone you know has any of those machines, please contact me.
