Help Susan Haas - Crash Severely Injures Her S.O.

Donation protected
Hard times for many of us right now, and yet our sweet friend, Susan Williams Haas, could use our help. Susan is warm, kind, and has that effervescence that’s so fun to be around, & also an incredibly gifted harpist - if you are among the PNW’s awesome events & hospitality professionals, you’ve likely crossed paths with Susan & love her just like we do.

A  few short weeks ago, you may have seen the super happy post Susan shared on Facebook about her plans to wrap up the last of her gigs here, sell her cute little home, load her harps & a few other belongings in her van and head to TX, where the love of her life, John, was waiting so they could share the rest of their days together.

Days after she posted those plans John was in a crash while driving his truck, devastating both physically and financially, and drastically changing their shared vision for their new life. With multiple severe injuries - a broken neck & a crushed face to name a few, John has undergone several surgeries already and faces more in the future. Susan’s role has shifted to caretaker & student, to learn the right way to change dressings, assist him to move, dress, and all-around general patient care that he needs and that, due to these COVID-19 times, is not available to him via a rehab facility.

John is self-employed in the construction field, and even with income from a few rentals his overall income has now been reduced by 50%, & the rental income is now uncertain via gov’t directives. We all know how much these current times have affected those with careers in arts/entertainment. Even if jobs were available, Susan’s hands are full with caring for the partner she loves so much. The financial picture gets worse, as many portions of John’s mounting medical expenses are not going to be covered by his insurance.

So here is the ask: I understand that these are unprecedented times that have been financially & emotionally disastrous to so many, so please know that I would never ask you to donate dollars that you can’t spare – and I know that Susan will treasure & appreciate your thoughts & prayers. If you do have some to share & feel moved to help this friend that has brought smiles to so many of our faces, both thru her music & just her fun sense of humor – she could really use the support.

Thanks very much – Erin & Bill Cawley
