Help Support the Coughlins

After months of distressing neurological symptoms including extreme fatigue, gait changes, and word-finding difficulty, our dear friend Kathy Coughlin was recently diagnosed with lung cancer which was unfortunately found to have already metastasized to her brain and lymph nodes. After a relatively brief hospital stay (several saintly RNs, other hospital workers, and lots of praying people worked their magic and convinced the doctors to discharge her early!), she is now at home. Steroid medications to alleviate swelling in her brain have been effective in reducing many of her immediate symptoms, but the coming week(s) will be filled with specialists' appointments which will bring new treatment recommendations.
Her devoted husband Brian, the sole income-earner in their household, has taken a break from his job (really, his labor of love) as a math and science teacher at Sacred Heart Academy to accompany her to these appointments and to care for her. It is likely that he will need additional time off in the future as well. Medical costs are notoriously expensive and because the Coughlins live in Ionia but most of their medical care is in Grand Rapids, fuel costs are adding up as well.
Brian and Kathy also have a number of significant food allergies and sensitivities which make it difficult for them to easily purchase simple meals and exclude using a service such as MealTrain. Under Kathy's expert instruction, Brian is learning to make some of her special recipes; a devoted small group of friends has volunteered to replicate some of these recipes to help the Coughlins.
Any money raised through this campaign will go towards food, living, and medical expenses for the Coughlins. Any amount you can offer is appreciated, but even more appreciated are your prayers for Brian and Kathy. Their good humor, peace, and faith in the midst of unimaginable news have been an inspiration to so many of us.
If God sends you many sufferings,
it is a sign that He has great plans for you
and certainly wants to make you a saint.
