Help Support Scott MacMillan's Family

Donation protected

On the morning of Friday September 20, 2019 Scott was involved in a serious accident on his way to work.  He was in his truck in  a heavy rainstorm when a tractor trailer hydroplaned and lost control of his vehicle.  The driver of the transport hit his brakes and the trailer jackknifed sideways into Scott's lane causing Scott to collide with the trailer.  It pinned him underneath, dragging him down the highway until the vehicle came to an eventual stop.

Scott was taken to Brandon Regional Health Centre and then transported to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg for emergency spinal surgery.  The procedure took in excess of 6 hours.  Unfortunately the doctors informed that Scott had suffered trauma to his C-6-7 vertebrae and a complete spinal cord dislocation which will leave him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.   The primary focus of the surgery was to save some of the feeling Scott had in his hands.  They are confident that through physiotherapy and occupational therapy he will be able to regain the use of his hands. This will drastically increase his quality of life.

Scott has a very long road ahead of him but with his own grit and determination and the support of his friends, family and those who love him, we are hopeful and confident we can get Scott out of the hospital and once again doing the things he loves.

Unfortunately, bills and financial obligations don't stop because of a life altering event.  Scott is the sole provider for the family.  Since the accident Joelynne has been by his side, followed shortly after by their children.  They are currently in Winnipeg until he is well enough to be transferred back to Brandon Hospital.

My hopes with starting this gofundme account is that we can all pitch in and try to alleviate some of the financial burden they are facing so that they can focus on what's important, Scott.  There are many challenges facing them in the future, and many adjustments that will need to be made for everyday life.

If you're reading this and you've met Scott, Joelynne and their kids Griffin, Hunter and Maggie, you're one of the lucky ones.
I know that Scott and Joelynne have both done so much for their community and their friends. Whether it was Scott coaching your kids in various sports over the years, or Joelynne smiling back at you from the other side of her camera while she captured your families joy or your children's passion for their sport/art.  It's time to give back and do what we can for them.  I know they have many amazing friends and family wishing there was a way to help Scott and his family in this tough time.  This is the way...anything helps.

*At this time I ask that you please refrain from directly contacting Scott and Joelynne regarding the accident.  They are all going through so much at this time that it could easily become overwhelming for them.  If you would like to leave a message on here, they will be  able to read it later on, when they are ready.  Thank you for understanding. *
