Help Support Oscar After Hit & Run

Donation protected
[UPDATE]
Hi everyone,
Oscar and I want to say thank you to all your generous donations. We are extremely grateful! Oscar is recovering and will be starting physical therapy as soon as his wounds heal. The hospital told us that the pre-insurance total is 40k. Once we receive the updated bills, we will edit the fundraiser goal. It was hard for us to ask our communities for help but we just don't know if he'll be approved for Medicaid and how much will be covered. We are very much interested in starting trauma therapy together and will use any remaining donations to begin this new journey and give back to our communities when we can. Again, thank you all so much.

Hi Friends,

If you know Oscar, you know that he’s always willing to help anyone at any given moment. In fact, this is one of his basic principles of life. Oscar is a loving and selfless person, and he believes that doing good deeds will always lead to good consequences. He firmly believes in karmic energy and that is why this accident seems ironic.

On Saturday night, June 12th, Oscar and I (Kelly) went to Sleeping Village to support a friend’s first DJ set. After we stepped out to go home, Oscar saw his friend holding multiple crates of records in his hands. Of course, Oscar, being the good person that he is, immediately grabbed a crate and assisted his friend to bring them off to his car, which was across the street. While walking across the street with a crate of records, a speeding '96 Toyota Camry directly knocked Oscar off his feet and records went flying everywhere… Oscar was immediately knocked unconscious and fell to the pavement like a life-sized doll. I was already walking a few paces behind them, so I began to run towards him, witnessing the crash in slow motion. The Camry took off. I frantically called 911 while holding Oscar, fearful for his life. The ambulance came quickly and he was driven off to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Since I was unable to ride with him, his friends were kind enough to drive me to the hospital. Thankfully, a CTA bus going the opposite direction, that happened to have stopped in front of the accident, had footage of the whole thing and the police were able to get the license plate number of the Camry. They are currently investigating our case but no one is in custody.

After many tests and scans, Oscar came out with severe scrapes, bruises, and some stitches. No broken bones, though! Talk about positive karmic energy! Considering the speed the car was going and the impact, this is a miracle we will never forget. Unfortunately, he does not have health insurance and the medical bills will be a pretty big pill to swallow. Not to mention, the lasting physical and mental trauma to both Oscar and I. We are applying for Medicaid but are not sure how much it will cover. He will be out of commission for a couple weeks but we are all in good spirits and so very thankful that Oscar is still with us.

All donations would help support his current living, healing, and medical expenses. It would mean everything to us and our family if you can help support Oscar after his unfortunate hit & run. Although our goal is a large sum, any donation you could offer would be very appreciated in his recovery. We love you all so much.

Sincerely,

Oscar, Kelly, & Family
