My Story:

Hello. My name is Jonathan Jones, owner of Marlows Orchids, LLC, a boutique Orchid Nursery in Rochester, New York.  You may have heard of us, but if not I wanted to take a few moments to introduce myself and the nursery to you.

Marlow Orchids started in 1993 with then-owner Jim Marlow, out of his small city backyard greenhouse. Over the next 23 years, Jim built a modest orchid nursery, offering unique orchids from around the world and teaching loyal customers how to grow them.

In 2015, I stumbled across Marlow Orchids because I was interested in growing orchids again in my home. I studied greenhouse operations many years prior, where I was first exposed to the beautiful genre of plants but had no idea the vast selection and beauty of one of the largest plant families in the world.  Jim spent about two hours with me that day and I was hooked. I first started volunteering for Marlow Orchids, as I wanted to gain as much information and knowledge about the vast array of orchids out there and how to grow them. Shortly thereafter, I became a part-time employee of Marlow Orchid, then full time, and finally an owner in 2018.  Over the last couple of years, I have handled much of the operations in the nursery both in productions and business, setting up Marlow Orchids for long term growth and eventually expansion.  During this time all the partners in the business set course for me to eventually take full control and ownership of the operation.

Today, I am happy to announce that Marlow Orchids, LLC is a successful and profitable business set up for that long term growth. But unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, my business partners need to retire and must sell the property on which we operate.  I have not been able to secure the financing necessary to purchase the property and take over Marlow Orchids in full, which in recent months has caused us to set a course to closure, much to our customers' dismay.  And that is why I am starting this Gofundme page.

Over the last several weeks, I have received many emails, phone calls, and pop-ins (CDC rules observed) to express heartfelt sorrow, appreciation, well wishes, and support. I have been so humbled and thankful to all our customers. I truthfully had no idea the impact, community, and family we helped build with our little nursery.  For that, I am forever grateful.

Despite the financial success of the business this year, there is a significant monetary hurdle standing in my way of taking over the operation. With many of you having expressed your willingness to offer support in order to keep the Marlow Orchids community alive and growing, I am graciously asking you for your financial support.
