Marco's Fight to Recovery

Many of you know our cousin Marco from when he spent a year with us at Trumbull High School. In that year, Marco made lifelong friendships with so many of you. To know Marco is to know he is full of life – a natural born athlete, life of the party, and dedicated friend. He is truly an incredible person who adds his spark to all of our lives. When he went back home to Italy he left with what are some of his favorite and happiest memories.
This past October, Marco’s and our families lives changed forever when he was driving home from work on his motorcycle and was hit, head on, by a car speeding in the wrong direction down a one-way street. Marco sustained a severe spinal cord injury and was airlifted to ICU for six weeks fighting for his life. He has since made tremendous progress that some may consider a miracle. He has been released from ICU and transferred to a rehabilitation center that focuses on Marco’s injury. Marco still has a long road ahead, and the facility he is at is 400 miles away from his family’s home. His parents have had to find a temporary residence close to the facility to be with him as he heals while Marco’s siblings, Filippo, Edoardo, and Ilaria, take turns working in “shifts,” making the 5 hour trip to see their brother so that he always has one of them by his side.
With distance between us, we feel helpless. After much thought, we’ve decided to put together this page. April 23 will be Marco’s 26th birthday and the perfect time to plan an uplifting surprise for him. We wish to shower him with all the love, support, and positivity we can from his friends and family here in the US.
The coming months will require a lot of work, dedication, determination, and strength from Marco and his family. Please help us lift their spirits and let him know he is not fighting this battle alone. Any means of support you choose to offer is so appreciated – words of encouragement or kindness, the sharing of a memory or a story, or any financial support you can offer to help get him the treatment he needs to further his progress. So much of Marco’s battle will be dependent on his spirits remaining positive. Marco has brought so much joy into our lives, we are excited to bring him some positivity and relief during these challenging times. We cannot express how much your support means to our family, thank you!!
