Help Support Kelli Martin

Anyone who knows Kelli knows she is always the caretaker and not the one that needs to be taken care of.  The hardest thing for her to do is to ask for help, so her friends are doing it for her here. This time, it's our turn to take care of her.

Kelli began having severe pain in early January of 2020.  She went to the emergency room on January 8, 2020 and that’s when her life officially changed.  She has not been able to return to work or resume a normal life since.

What was supposed to have been one of the happiest times in her life – closing on a long awaited home of her own on January 10, 2020, just became the beginning of what would be a year of hospitals, surgery, chemotherapy, pills, and more doctors visits than anyone should have in a lifetime.

Kelli was admitted to the hospital for extreme pain January 26 thru January 29.  She received an official diagnosis at the end of January.  A diagnosis no one in their 30’s expects to hear.  Colon Cancer – stage 4.

Surgery on February 17th revealed an 8 pound mass which was removed.  It was then learned the cancer had metastasized to both ovaries, pelvis, uterus and abdominal lining.

Next came the ostomy.  This has been a unique challenge in itself for her.  Just this change alone means daily life is more of a struggle.

Chemotherapy began in April.  Chemotherapy is always hard, but the new element of Covid made it that much more challenging.  Kelli was unable to have the amount of support her friends and family wanted to give her because of the risk of Covid given her immune-compromised state would pose.  Most of the chemotherapy sessions, doctors visits, and recovery have been isolated.

Kelli is now in her second round of chemotherapy.  This round is much more intense.  The nausea and sickness is more intense.  The side effects are more intense. This round of chemo is the only hope of a chance for reversing the ostomy.

Kelli’s cancer is incurable.  Everything the doctors are doing now is palliative care.  She is unable to work and is unable to ever go back to a “normal” life that she had before.  She is bravely facing the unknown and is living her worst fears with a strength and grace that is unimaginable.  Kelli has always been a friend to anyone she’s ever come in contact with and has always been there for everyone in her life.  Now it is our turn to be there for her.  Please consider supporting in any way you can.  Let’s help alleviate the things we can control so she can focus on living her best life every day going forward.
