Help Support Kathy's Cancer Journey

As some of you know, our mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in March of 2020. She did chemo, radiation and surgery. It was successful after many complications and one heck of a bumpy road.

Unfortunately, in October of 2021, she was diagnosed with therapy-related Acute Myeloid Leukemia (caused by the chemo drug during her breast cancer treatment). She was admitted and in the hospital for six weeks to undergo an aggressive chemo treatment. At the end of the month, she had her follow-up bone marrow biopsy, and it showed that she was in remission and the chemo worked.

In February of 2022, the Leukemia returned. She was admitted and started another round of aggressive chemo. She was receiving blood and platelets and was sent home on March 9th but had spontaneous bleeding and low counts, and she was sent back to the hospital.

On March 13, 2022, she was admitted again and is still in the hospital. After a bone marrow biopsy, it was determined that the Leukemia was back, and she was only in remission for five days. She was given options of hospice or undergoing another round of aggressive chemo that would last 21 days. After several severe complications, she made it through the treatment.

She had her most recent bone marrow biopsy on April 5th, which showed the last round of chemo did not work. They’ve given her the option of hospice again or palliative care. More chemo is not an option at this point. If you know our mom, she is a fighter and unwilling to give up yet. She is fighting for her life because she wants to stay with her family, kids, and grandchildren for as long as possible.

With all of this said, our dad has been off work to be with her and hasn’t left her side. He has used all of his sick time – the bills are starting to add up fast, and they continue to pile in from the hospital stays, chemotherapy, transfusion clinic, etc. We are hoping to alleviate some of their financial stress.

Any funds raised will go towards out-of-pocket costs for all doctor visits, treatments and hospital stays. As well as the cost of living and bills.
