John is the loving husband of Elizabeth and an incredible father to Annie, 3 and Jacob, 2. He is already in love with his, soon to arrive, 2nd son, Benjamin, who is due in June. He is a faithful man of God who believes there is a purpose to his life and suffering. He is strong and brave and ALWAYS has a smile on his face and an encouraging word for others.
In May of 2016, John went to the doctor for what he thought was a urinary tract infection but instead he was diagnosed with stage 4 renal cell carcinoma. His particular type of cancer has sarcomatoid features which makes it a rare and difficult to treat. John had his kidney removed and in the last two years has tried both chemotherapy and immunotherapy options. Chemo did not work but immunotherapy did provide a period of time where hope grew and cancer did not. John and his family are very grateful for the time they have had together. Last weeks scans showed that the reason for his recurrent and constant cough and trouble breathing is a large tumor which has taken over his trachea. This news is obviously heavy and terribly painful for John and his family and everyone who loves them. Surgery and radiation are not options as he is stage IV and his trachea would not withstand radiation but he will begin a new kind of chemo. In the past chemo has not worked but it is their last hope outside of a miracle.
The medical bills have and will continue to accumulate. John cannot work and is quickly becoming unable to care for the kids while Elizabeth works. Soon he will need personal care which Elizabeth is aching to be able to do herself. On top of these concerns Elizabeth is needing to be off work at various times for appointments and to be with John and the kids. She also has an upcoming maternity leave. This fundraiser is being set up to help offset some of these growing and ongoing costs and give them some peace and as much time together as possible. Please join us in supporting them and praying for a miracle for this beloved family
