Help support a fresh food bank
We are building a fresh food bank to support the local community and those going through hardships during Covid.
We are turning an abandoned allotment in Hackney, London, into a fruit and vegetable garden and we will be giving away produce to the community for free.
Thank you for reading our story, we appreciate it very much!
We are Luna, Brigita & Pip
We live in Hackney, London. All keen green thumbs Luna & Pip (twins) discovered an abandoned garden in our neighbourhood. We met Brigita when she popped her head over the wall while we were gardening in the first week and have become firm friends!
With the permission from the land owners we have have been transforming this once abandoned garden into a Vegetable, Herb & Fruit garden
We started with own own money & time with the help of a few volunteers started clearing the weeds, drug use, dog business & rubbish from the garden. We have no grants or government funding. It’s just us & hard work.
we had to clear rubbish, 15+ drug used needles, dog & human poop, other drug items,
make the ground safe to garden. And many many weeds 70 sacks in total
Before
After
We are passionate about the environment. We have tried to reuse absolutely everything that we found. The rubble sacks were there when we found it, but the future plan is vegetable wood boxes.
We have also built an area for wild flowers to attract Birds,Bees & Butterflies.
Why are we doing this?
Well we our selves struggled & had to go to food banks.
We were so grateful for the amazing people and volunteers giving time and produce to food banks but saw they struggled being able to provide fresh veggies, herbs & fruit.
We want to give back and thought we could fill the gap for fresh healthy produce to the community for free. So that is what our project is - a fresh food bank!
We have time, hard work ethic & passion for gardening & helping those in need but we lack funds for seeds, wood and gardening equipment. We need your help!
The following list is the items we need that will help us greatly with our project:
Vegetable seeds (carrots, beetroot, cauliflower etc)
Herb seeds
Lemon, orange, pear trees
Organic compost
A polytunnel greenhouse for the delicate produce
Cedar wood for building raised beds
Nails & building equipment
A hose
Landscape fabric
Chicken wire
The list is always growing but these are our priority.
We hope we told our story well & want to thank you a million times over for any donations.
Thank you Thank you Thank you
