Recently, our world was turned upside down when my little brother, a brave 5 year old, was diagnosed with cancer. What began as a simple concern from my mum and dad about a lump on his neck quickly turned into a devastating journey that no family should have to endure.
It all started when my mum noticed a lump on his neck that seemed to grow over time. Initially, they went to Queen's Hospital in Romford, where he underwent a series of tests. After all the checks, they were told it was nothing serious and were sent home. But just a day later, things got worse. He began throwing up everything he ate and was in severe pain, crying. This led them to rush him to Whipps Cross Hospital, where doctors suspected something more serious, possibly cancer, due to the additional lumps on his belly and neck.
He was quickly transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital, where after a number of tests and a biopsy, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system. Unfortunately, the diagnosis revealed that he had not just one, but four lumps—one on his neck, one on his chest, one on his kidney, and one on his bowel. These lumps, along with his symptoms, pointed to an aggressive form of cancer that would require immediate treatment.
My brother has now begun chemotherapy, which has caused him a lot of pain and fatigue. He’s been struggling to eat, as the treatment has made him so ill. He had to undergo a gastrostomy procedure to help him feed and flush out the black and green ascites in his stomach.
The road ahead is incredibly tough, as he’ll be in the hospital for months, including throughout Christmas. Because of his vulnerability, he isn’t allowed any visitors at the moment, and we’re just hoping to be able to see him during the holiday period.
This diagnosis has turned our lives upside down, and the emotional toll on our family has been overwhelming. My mum who have shown such incredible strength, are now unable to work as they stay by his side throughout his treatment.
The financial strain is real, and this is why we’ve started this GoFundMe—to help ease some of the burden so that they can focus on being there for my brother without the added stress of worrying about finances.
To bring some joy to my brother during this challenging time, we also plan to take him to Disneyland Paris once he’s well enough. We know this trip will bring a smile to his face and create precious memories for our family, no matter how tough the road ahead may be.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a huge difference in helping us through this difficult time. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to us, and we’re so grateful for any support you can offer.
Together, we can help my little brother and our family stay strong, focused on healing, and continue to fight this battle with hope in our hearts.
Thank you so much for your love and support.
