Help Students Read and Succeed
Imagine not being able to read. Imagine how small your world would be.
Many students across the U.S. are relegated to that small world. Unable to read and comprehend, they lack the foundation of successful learning and living.
That's where Read On! comes in. This interactive online program for elementary school students fosters the love of reading — and boosts reading skills — among those who are struggling academically, especially during COVID-19. Our free program is designed for students whose families do not have resources for extra help such as private tutoring.
How It Works
Each week, an adult volunteer and a student meet one-on-one for a 30-40 minute Zoom session.
In an initial session, the volunteer meets the parent and child online and explains more about Read On!. In following sessions, the volunteer reads books that interest the student, discusses the books and plays games to review words and ideas.
The volunteer shares the books via an online ebook collection we've selected for its high-quality content and presentation. When the student becomes more proficient in reading, the volunteer not only shares a book but also helps the child learn by building key reading skills.

Where Will Your Donation Go?
Your donation will help pay for these and other operating expenses of the Read On! program:
* Conduct background checks on volunteers to ensure online security.
* Purchase equipment such as computer cameras and external hard drives for storing session recordings.
* Cover the cost of subscriptions to an online ebook collection.
For example, your donation of $10 will pay for a reading collection subscription for four children for one month. Your donation of $100 will cover the cost of background checks for two new volunteers.

Today's educational spotlight is on STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), all laudable disciplines. But many high school science and math teachers find their students are struggling due to a lack of basic reading skills.
