Help stop a Hydroelectric Dam in El Salvador!

Donation protected
Private investors plan to build a hydroelectric dam in indigenous Nahuat territories in Nahuizalco, El Salvador. Indigenous elders in Nahuizalco are among the communities that will be impacted the most by this neocolonial project that will deplete ancestral water resources. The Council of the Native People Nahuat Pipil (COPONAPN) is leading a fight against the construction of the hydroelectric dam in Nahuizalco. Nahuat elders from Nahuizalco need your support:

Please make a donation to hire lawyers and scientific experts that will develop environmental and social assessments about the dam's disruption of the local ecosystem and the self-sustainability of indigenous communities. These professional assessments are a critical component in the legal fight to stop the construction of the dam. Your donation will also cover transportation, fees, and food expenses of indigenous activists so they can continue mobilizing communities against this privatization project.

No donation is too small, we urgently need your support. Thank you!

Please note: In El Salvador, there are important efforts happening right now to fight back against the environmental assualts posed by projects such as the "Small Hydroelectric Power Station Nuevo Nahuizalco II" including efforts carried out by coalitions with representation from environmental, human, and Indigenous rights organizations. This particular fundraiser led by Centro Cultural Techantit is in support of the legal strategy being pursued and led by The Council of the Native People Nahuat Pipil (COPONAPN).
