Help Steve Verry Battle Cancer

Royal High School’s leadership program is hosting a fundraiser in honor of Steve Verry, beloved teacher from our school on Wednesday, April 11th. Through the years, Mr. Verry has been a hard working, caring, and great asset to Royal, but also battling prostate cancer for about 15 years. Through treatments, his cancer was in remission, but it unfortunately has recently come back. He is currently on chemotherapy and radiation hoping for long positive lasting results.
Steve Verry has been teaching for over 40 years. He has coached multiple sports, including football, wrestling and track. While at Royal High School, Mr. Verry has taught math, health, drivers education, skateboarding and the new College and Career Class. As a teacher, he has always been not just a student favorite, but also a trusted adult for many challenged students. During these 40 years, Mr. Verry has made a huge impact on all students, both those directly in his classes and many others on campus. While still on campus, he would open his door before, during lunch and after school for students to get work done, talk to him about their lives or just as a safe and comfortable place to be. He always makes everyone feel invited and loved in his presence. Even while going through cancer and the treatment, it was and still is about other people and how he can help them rather than helping himself. He is a great teacher and his presence is greatly missed on campus.
This year the Royal High School class of 2018 is hosting the Mr. Highlander Pageant in honor of Mr. Verry. On April 11th at 7 pm in the Royal High MPR, the best and brightest of our Royal High School seniors will put on a live show, including talents, dancing, and interviews that will surely entertain all who attend. We will be having a live auction with gift baskets and will be charging admission for the show. All of the proceeds will be donated to Mr. Verry . He has disclosed how humbled and grateful he is to have been given this opportunity to raise money and, most importantly, awareness for cancer.
We are kindly asking for any donations or contributions that local businesses are willing to offer. All donations, no matter how small, are greatly appreciated. We are hoping to raise as much money as possible in order to involve the Simi Valley community in this meaningful event for Steve Verry.
