Help Steve and Dana After Violent Attack

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Angela and I’m Steve’s sister and Dana’s sister-in-law. I would like to raise money to help them recover and transition back to normal life as easily as possible.

On August 23rd, Steve and Dana found themselves living in a nightmare. Now, they need your help to get back to working towards their dreams.

Prior to getting married, Steve had rented out two rooms in his basement to help with the mortgage payment. After a Covid wedding, the couple decided to continue renting until they got their businesses off the ground. Sharing their house with renters had always been a positive experience until now. This attack was completely unprovoked and unexpected. This particular renter had lived with them for the past year, they shared meals and talked with him often. There were no previous indicators that this man could be capable of such a horrific crime.

That afternoon, Steve was taking a nap after going hunting early that morning. Dana was in the kitchen preparing a meal for their 12-year-old son when she heard one of their roommates in a faint voice say, “Help me…I’m being stabbed...Help!” from downstairs. Dana immediately went to the stairwell and came face to face with their other roommate at the top of the stairs. He had an evil look in his eyes and was clutching a knife charging towards her. She frantically told her 12-year-old son to go to the neighbors to call the police. Retreating to the dining room, she yelled for Steve to get his gun but unfortunately it was still in the truck from his hunting trip.

Steve ran out to the dining room and saw Dana trapped in the corner with the man trying to stab her. Weaponless, Steve tackled the man to stop him from hurting Dana. A long fight ensued and Steve was repeatedly stabbed in his shoulder, bicep, arms and hands as he fought for their lives. Dana jumped on the man’s back and did all she could to stop him from stabbing Steve. Never giving up, Steve pinned the man down until the cops arrived. Steve was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery to repair multiple stab wounds including his shoulder, bicep and head. He needed stitches in multiple areas and had many other defensive and bite wounds. Steve was kept at the hospital for 3 days due to the seriousness of his injuries and recovery is going to be a very long process. Dana suffered bite marks and other bruises and cuts but didn’t require hospitalization thankfully.

As if this wasn’t bad enough, unfortunately the story gets worse. Still reeling from the violent and unwarranted attack in their home, the next morning Dana left the hospital to get Steve’s cell phone and clothes from their home. A driver ran a red light going at least 40 mph and t-boned the passenger side of her car. Dana’s car was totaled and she was understandably very shaken.

Both Steve and Dana are loving parents, newly self-employed and have demanding jobs. Dana recently stepped out on her own financially to start a Caribbean food truck business which is her lifelong dream. Steve has a strenuous physical job running a garage door business which is also just getting off the ground. They are selfless people who would give you the shirt off their backs. Both have pretty bad insurance and are now short one vehicle. This assault is preventing them from working until they are healed. Steve needs use of his arms before he can continue servicing his customers. We will spare you the pictures of the crime scene, but their house will need a cleanup crew as well.

We are hoping to raise money to help pay for their medical bills which will likely be more than $50,000. In addition, we want to help Dana get a new car which will cost around $10,000. They would deeply appreciate any size donation as every bit will help them get back to normal. Even just $25 adds up when enough people pitch in. Thank you and God bless!

P. S. I always knew my brother was a badass, this proves it!!
