On August 19, a fire broke out at Avana on Main, an apartment complex in Atlanta, Georgia. The top floors of the building were completely engulfed in flames, and the ensuing flooding from the water it took to put out the fire has resulted in massive damage. Many apartments, as a result, were completely destroyed. Nearly 200 people were forced out of their homes and left with nowhere to return, including my friends Stella Evans and Timothy Sok. They are both currently students at Georgia State University working towards earning their degrees.
Stella and Tim were able to safely evacuate the building during the fire, but did not have time to retrieve any of their personal belongings in the apartment. These belongings included clothes, furniture, electronics, toiletries, kitchenware, and much more. All of these things were destroyed in the fire. Unfortunately, insurance will not cover the cost of these lost belongings, and the apartment administration has not provided any assurance that these things will ever be recovered.
Stella has been working for the past year in order to save funds towards buying a car, but must now start putting this money towards repurchasing everything that she and Tim have lost. The financial burden of doing so, especially for college students, would be enormous. That is why we are asking, if anyone is able to donate to help Stella and Tim rebuild their lives and repurchase all of the things they have lost, it would be greatly appreciated. Any amount would help them tremendously during this hard time, and we know that they would be incredibly grateful!
If you prefer to donate directly instead of through GoFundMe, they are also accepting donations through their personal Venmo/Cashapp accounts:
- CashApp: $TimSok
- Venmo: Timothy-Sok
Even just spreading the word and sharing on social media would be a huge help. :)
Thank you so much!
