Help Skip Get Training

Donation protected
Skip is a 1-year-old cattle dog with tons of energy and love to give.  He showed up to an apartment building in Esko, MN confused and alone.  He was very standoffish and my dad (Marvin) had to coax him with food in order to get him inside a kennel so he could take him inside and away from the busy intersection they live on.  Inside, he opened up his kennel and stepped aside, letting him come out on his own terms.  He eventually did and my dad was able to pet him and give him the attention he deserves.  It was then he realized his collar read "deaf dog". After many phone calls and digging, we found his owner and planned on returning him.  After more conversation with the owner, they decided it would be in the best interest of Skip if my dad and step-mom (Gail) keep him.

He has been attached to my dad since the moment they found him.  He loves attention and is super energetic.  He loves to play with other dogs and his toys.  However, he has his flaws. Sadly, this is the fourth family he's been with in his short little life.  We anticipate he spent most of his life in a kennel so he needs special training and lots of socialization. He is super loyal and very smart (super food motivated) but he will nip at the feet of other dogs and you have to watch your wrists if you pet him longer than he likes.  He also has a birth defect so his head will tilt to the side.

He really needs special training.  Gail has met with someone who trains dogs locally and actually has special needs dogs of her own (at least one is deaf) and she thinks Skip is very smart and trainable.  Ideally, he would get 4 weeks of training on-site with the trainer so he can get out of his bad habits and learn necessary skills that will help him in his life. Unfortunately, this costs over $400 a week. This would be a financial burden on my family but is so necessary for Skip. Marvin and Gail are wonderful people who have invested much of their own money in animals that have shown up on their property over the years (re-homing and paying for medical expenses).

Please consider donating to help out my family and Skip.  They have already invested money in adopting him from his previous owner, paying for his medical expenses and would love to get him into training as soon as possible. He deserves a chance to learn properly and to be with a family who can love him.

Please help out Skip!
